Frequently Asked Questions
What is the PF contribution rate in India?
Both employee and employer contribute 12% of PF wage (Basic + DA, capped at ₹15,000/month). Of the employer's 12%, up to ₹1,250/month goes to EPS (Employee Pension Scheme) and the remainder to EPF.
Is PF calculated on Basic salary or Gross salary?
PF is calculated on Basic + Dearness Allowance (DA), not Gross salary. Using Gross salary instead is one of the most common PF calculation errors.
What is the PF wage ceiling?
₹15,000 per month. Even if an employee's actual Basic+DA is higher, PF is calculated on ₹15,000 unless the company voluntarily contributes on the full amount.
What is the EPS cap in PF calculation?
EPS (Employee Pension Scheme) is capped at ₹1,250 per month (8.33% of the ₹15,000 ceiling). Any remainder from the employer's 12% contribution goes to EPF instead.
