Frequently Asked Questions
How is in-hand salary calculated from CTC?
In-hand salary is CTC minus employer PF contribution, minus employee PF contribution, minus income tax (TDS), plus any bonus paid during the year. Employer PF is part of CTC but never reaches the employee's bank account.
Why is my in-hand salary lower than CTC divided by 12?
CTC includes employer PF contributions, gratuity provisioning, and other employer-paid benefits that never show up in your monthly payout — only gross salary minus employee deductions (PF, tax) reaches your account.
Does this calculator use the old or new tax regime?
This calculator estimates tax under the new tax regime (the default regime as of FY 2026-27), which has lower slab rates but no deductions for investments like 80C.
Is the Basic salary always 40% of CTC?
No — this is a common assumption used for estimation. Actual Basic percentage varies by company policy and, under the new wage code, allowances are capped at 50% of CTC, which can push Basic higher in some structures.
